Meet the Founder

Vet Space Ireland was created by Michelle Maguire and Hazell Mullins to promote learning and positivity within the veterinary world. Both share a passion for all things veterinary, wellbeing and keeping up to date with veterinary current affairs in Ireland.

Vet Space Ireland is a passion project, non-profit, volunteer organisation. We would not exist without our dedicated team of ambassadors and supporters who drive our mission forward every day.

At Vet Space Ireland, we understand that all veterinary professionals work in a busy and at times mentally, physically and emotionally challenging environment. As such, we want to do our little bit to try to lighten your day. Our hope is simply to bring a smile to your face.

Engage

Vet Space Ireland is intended to be a platform for all veterinary professionals to engage in a constructive and supporting way. The Vet Space Ireland platform will help you keep up to date with all that’s current and new in the industry. Engage and entertain also go hand in hand so stay tuned for Vet Space Ireland’s social events.

Mental health and wellbeing is something the whole team at Vet Space Ireland are very passion about. Vet Space Ireland’s main aim is to help inspire all veterinary professional’s to be their best, enjoy their work and most importantly look after themselves. Sometimes it really is the little things that help get you through the day. Vet Space wants to ensure that positive wellbeing is achievable for everyone, to advocate for appropriate and necessary work life balance and to offer support where we can.

Our Mission

Michelle Maguire - Founder

Michelle started her career as a Veterinary Nurse at Troytown Equine Hospital where she went on to be a neonatal ICU Nurse. Roles as a stud nurse in a foaling unit followed before she joined The Phoenix Equine Group where she continued with a focus on Equine internal medicine.

Michelle has also worked in mixed animal practice and as Territory Manager for a veterinary pharmaceutical company, and as a practice director before taking up her role as National Regional Director. Michelle has studied business management and leadership, media production, is a Fear Free certified veterinary professional and has recently achieved a diploma in corporate wellness coaching. Her main areas of interest are Fear Free veterinary, veterinary business development, and workplace wellbeing. She is a self-professed space and science geek. By the sea is where she finds her soul.

She has three superhero side – kicks; Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin and Rey Skywalker, her cats.

Hazell Mullins - Founder

Hazell Mullins - Founder

Hazell is a proud graduate of Nottingham vet school. After graduating she returned to Ireland and began her career as a large animal vet in Killarney Veterinary Clinic. Hazell also worked for Glasslyn Veterinary clinic in Bandon and Abbeyville Veterinary Hospital in Cork City, before taking up her current role as Large Animal Clinical Director & Head of Communications for Highfield Veterinary. Hazell’s Dad, Anthony, is a dairy farmer so farming and agriculture is a huge part of her life. Her main areas of interest are calf health, preventative disease management, bovine surgery and medicine.

Hazell was the 2024 President of Veterinary Ireland. Hazell is no longer an active member of Vet Space Ireland, but as a Founder, will always be an honorary member.

Lisa Schaefer

Lisa Schaefer

A German American, Lisa is a registered nurse, a vet tech, and a veterinary surgeon. Lisa spent much of her EMS time in vet school seeing practice in Ireland, where she fell in love with the standard of veterinary, and the people, and last year, decided to make Ireland her home.

Her main areas of interest are fear free veterinary, canine behaviour, anaesthesia & analgesia, and surgery.

Lisa is an expert level Fear Free Veterinary Professional and has recently completed a cert in canine behaviour.

She is also Mum to two beagles, Kylie & Rosie, an American paint horse Trini, a Shetland pony Charlie, and a Greek Tortoise Cleo.

Evelyn Coleman

Evelyn Coleman

Evelyn is a vet from Cork. She graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest in 2018 and began her career in mixed practice in the beautiful coastal region of Pembrokeshire, Wales.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Evelyn returned home to Ireland and joined Riverview Vets in Cork, a busy mixed practice. Her time there cemented her love of community-focused veterinary care and the variety of mixed practice life.

She later joined Sunbeam Veterinary Hospital, where she spent two and a half years providing out of hours emergency care before founding her own locum business, Vet Relief, where she trekked across the country in many different settings gaining experience on how to operate a small business as well as being able to slot in to any new team.
Evelyn now works with Home Vet Care, offering home visits that allow for calm, compassionate, and personalised care for pets in the comfort of their own homes.

Evelyn has a particular interest in ECC, nutrition and wellbeing for vets. She’s also passionate about making work life balance easier and more fun for vets.

Evelyn will be sharing her experiences in practice and her perspectives on communication, wellbeing, and connection within the profession here on Vet Space Ireland.

Niamh Casey

Niamh Casey

Niamh is a veterinary surgeon from Cork. She graduated from the University of Dublin in 2017 and has a special interest in small animal orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.

She completed a rotating internship at Northwest Veterinary Specialists in the UK, followed by a specialist internship in small animal surgery at Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital in 2019.

She completed the RCVS certificate in General Small Animal Surgery in 2022. Niamh is currently studying towards an Advanced Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery with Improve International.
She joined Sunbeam Veterinary Hospital in 2024 and is delighted to be part of such a diverse and passionate team with excellent resources. Outside of veterinary Niamh enjoys CrossFit and horse riding.

Niamh will be sharing her surgical experiences here on Vet Space Ireland. She also hopes to use this platform to support colleagues within this very challenging and equally very rewarding profession.

Annie Baltz

Annie Baltz

Annie graduated from university in 2013 and worked in the first and largest cat only hospital in Brazil. Annie has a Masters in Small Animals Medicine, a cert in surgery, and is currently undertaking a cert in feline medicine. She also has advanced training in ultrasonography. She is an experienced Clinical Director and has a passion for promoting advanced care in practice.

Annie is a Fear Free certified veterinary professional, and her areas of interest are surgery, feline medicine, clinical mentorship, and business management.
She is a proud mom of 2 little humans and 2 pets, a German Shepherd named Shiva and a Bengal cat named Thor.
